Since 2011, the Brian's "Sub Zero" line has been that goalies look to for innovation, extreme weight savings, and incredible performance.  After all, it was the original Sub Zero leg pad that brought us Smart Strap technology, E-Foams, and the first pad under 5lbs in weight.  For 2016, the new Sub Zero Pro 3 pad builds on Brian's innovations of the pad to create their most efficient, light weight butterfly-style pad to date.

New for 2016, the Sub Zero Pro 3 leg pad features a more gradual "S-Curve" shape than the SZ2, which gives the pad a more flat design from boot to thigh rise.  The pad has a mediumm flex (2 Darts) at the break below the knee, and a harder flex (1 Dart) at the break above the knee.  The boot break uses Brian's Hyper-Flex 4 boot construction - Brian's softest break - which allows the goalie to deeply flex the pad at the ankle area for laterall movements, rebound control, etc.  The shape of the boot itself has also been redesigned to be square (90 degrees) so that it seals much better to ice.

The inside edge features a thinner pad profile with stitch lines optimally placed to enhance pad slide.  Additionally, the slightly wider knee stack has been inset slightly to help it connect better and more quickly with the goalies knee.  This new feature enables the goalie to more quickly drive the pad to the ice, which in turn provides a quicker, better pad seal.

Like all Sub Zero pads, the Sub Zero Pro 3 comes standard with Brian's innovative Smart Strap - a Y-shaped elastic and velcro attachment system that eliminates the need for conventional leather leg pad straps.  This tried and true system, together with a leather boot strap and a double elastic knee cradle strap, saves nearly 1/4 of a pound of weight per pad when compared to pads with traditional strapping.  The wide leg channel is fully lined with a new Hex-Air leg channel to promote air flow and give the channel a very comfortable feel.  Speaking of comfort, the new Smart Knee strap is made of two thin pieces of elastic as opposed to one wide, double elastic strap.  This new strap design keeps the strap from binding behind the goalie's knee, and it also helps reduce pad weight as well.

Finally, did we mention that the Sub Zero Pro 3 is 10% lighter than the Sub Zero 2 leg pad?  .
