The Vaughn 1000i Velocity 6 chest & arm protector is a brand new model for 2014.  This model is based exactly off of the 1000 chest guard platform, but it has been scaled down to fit the Junior or Intermediate goaltender.  Protection on this unit is fantastic, as many of the Ultra-high and HD foam pad thicknesses (in the chest pad blocks and sternum plate, for example) are the same in the 1000i as you'll find in the 1000 Senior model.

The shoulder floaters are made using a wide, squared design that completely cover the shoulder joint, and underneath these Ultra high density foam pads sit oversized secondary caps that cover both the shoulder and the bicep area.  Like all V6 chest units for 2014, the sternum pad on the 1000i has been lengthened to extend further down the belly for better protection.  The belly features a lower pad flap that flexes when the goalie goes into a deep crouch position so the pad remains properly positioned as the goalie takes his/her stance.

The arm protection features molded reinforcement caps encapsulated in foam for greater impact resistance, and the arm floaters are made using Ultra high density foam internals for a rigid, protective blocking surface.  These floaters, along with the molded elbow cap, have a four-point adjustment system to help the goalie achieve a precise fit.  Upper side bicep pads complete the arm design and provide even more net coverage.

  • Four point adjustable elbow pads
  • Adjustable arm and wrist straps
  • Lower chest pad belly flap
  • Extra wide shoulder caps
  • Large sternum plate
  • Built-in neck guard
  • Large back spine protector with height adjustment

My son will be a first bantam, he is 5ft 1in and weights 135lbs would he be better with a intermediate XXL  or a senior small so he can get a few years out of it?

Asked by: Paully
The senior SM will give you more length in the arm as well, so the answer to this questions would depend on his measurements. You do not want the arms to be too long, ad they will interfere with the gloves and overall movement/comfort. Ideally, a chest/arm unit should stop right about where the player would wear his or her watch on the wrist.

I would recommend a senior small, but it is best to try this item on before purchasing if possible.

Adult Level?

Would this be a good chest protector at adult levels for a small goalie? I'm 5'2'' but play at a higher skill level. Advanced.
Asked by: Goalie18
If you play once or twice a week, the Vaughn 1000 C/A would be a great unit for an adult league goalie.

An intermediate XL sounds like it should fit well.

My son is a small 1st year bantam goalie, looking for sizing recommendations. he is 4'8" 100lbs. Facing shots from much larger kids.

Asked by: Heipfam
A Large would should work for his current size and still be good for sizing to grow into.
