The NME 10 goalie mask is Bauer's most innovative mask to date. While it maintains it's iconic shape, the materials used both in the shell and in the liner are the most advanced that Bauer has ever put into a helmet.
The shell is built off of a fiberglass base, but it features a 12K carbon outer layer, Innegra fiber reinforcement on the forehead and chin areas, and a carbon edge wrap. The Innegra fiber - which Bauer currently uses in their high end goalie sticks - acts to hold the carbon and fiberglass fibers together to prevent chipping, and it also serves as an excellent vibration dampener. Additionally, the shell also features some vibration dampening tape (which is also used in airplanes) to further dampen impact vibrations.
The foam liner is still mechanically attached so that it can removed for cleaning or painting. It is constructed of 2 layers of VN foam, PORON fiber in the impact zones, and a soft comfort foam in the pressure zones. This foam combination produces one of the most comfortable, protective liners in the industry. A Thermo-Max sweatband is also included.
The cage is made of Titanium wire, which has been optimally placed to give the goalie the best forward and peripheral vision possible. The Titanium weighs 50% less than traditional stainless steel cages, and it is also twice as strong. A rubber wire wrap covers the top and bottom wires of the cage to help prevent shell chipping when the cage is impacted.
