Bauer has upgraded the shell of the 960 with a new hybrid material called Kraibon, designed to decrease and dampen vibration. Combined with a 24k textreme carbon top layer the shell of the mask is specifically engineered to absorb and dissipate impact energy. For the liner Bauer uses their Defense Cloud Tech, a more comfortable liner that retains less water than its predecessor.

This mask also features added protection in the cheeks, forehead, crown, and backplate with Poron XRD. Another upgrade is the DCT Ergo chin cup, a deeper chin cup to provide a more comfortable and improved fit.
