The Vaughn 1000i Velocity 6 Blocker is an Intermediate sized version of the 1000 Senior blocker. It includes the same features that are found in the 1000 so that younger goalies can have the protection and performance that the adult goalies enjoy.
The blocker board itself has a tapered design at the finger and the cuff and a more squared profile at the sides to better balance the board on the hand. New for 2014, Vaughn has laced the board down at the wrist area to secure the blocking surface to the inner foam core. This gives the board a more consistent deflection (= better control) when saving the puck.
The Ultra high density side shield is sewn directly into the bottom seam of the blocker board to create a large, continuous protective surface. Both the opening for the stick and the side shield itself have been enlarged for 2014 to create a larger, more controlable surface. An air cushion pillow sits between the side shield and the hand to provide for even more protection.
The palm is placed at the center of the blocking board for great balance, and it is made of Vaughn's MSH3 material so that it won't get "crusty" after prolonged use. The finger stalls are pre-curved to allow the goalie to more easily grip the stick, and they have mesh gussets for great ventilation. The fingers are well protected with HD foam shields on the back and the sides, and the side shield acts as an additional layer of protection for the index finger.
New for 2014, the cuff opening is detached to give the goalie superior wrist mobility.

Key to a Proper Fit:
The blocker should be fitted based on hand size. The goalie's fingers should be no more than 1/4" from the end of the fingers in the palm. If the fingers are too long, chances are the hand tabs that tie down the palm to the blocker are too large. This will cause the blocker to wobble, tilt or rotate on the goaltender's hand, seriously affecting control while limiting coverage (blocking surface).
