Vaughn has made upgrades to their velocity line over the years to both increase performance and reduce weight. The Velocity V9 Pro Carbon leg pads feature upgrades to both design and materials that has reduced weight while maintaining a pro quality build. Externally, the V9 Pro Carbon pads feature a reduction to the outside roll that both reduces weight and encourages the pad to sit flusher against the post while in a reverse VH. Another change to the outside of the pad is the thinned out outside panel to reduce bulk and weight, as well as a thinner profile at the thigh rise to prevent the pads from getting in the way of each other in the butterfly without sacrificing proper 5-hole seal. 

The reduction in overall profile and shape on the Velocity V9 Pro Carbon leg pads is accomplished largely in part to an updated inner core with new Pure Carbon. The new Pure Carbon material is a lighter and stronger update to the inner core allowing less material to be used without sacrificing the structure of the pad. The Pure Carbon inner core also enhances the rebounds off the face of the pad which has been made firmer. The combination of the firmer front surface and the Pure Carbon inner core produces more active rebounds compared to previous Velocity models. The V9 Pro Carbon leg pad features more torsional flex than its Ventus SLR2 counterpart, allowing the pad to move with the goalies’ leg and feel more connected, but with the Pure Carbon core the pad still seals to the ice. 

Goalies will enjoy a modern strapping on the Vaughn Velocity V9 leg pads featuring the popular RRC strap, along with newly added Y-calf strap. The V9 strapping is made up of a knee strap, the new Velocity Y-calf strap, the elastic boot strap, and the RRC strap. The Velcro knee strap can be strapped across the knee to the outer wing or to the calf with the outer wing removed, with your knee landing on the now wider knee cradle with a soft and comfortable landing gear. The Y-calf strap is a simple, yet effective solution to the calf closure with extended back leg coverage to keep your leg secure and protected. The elastic boot strap is a Velcro closure for ease of use and stretches with the goalie’s skate when making difficult saves to reduce tension on the hips. The Reactive Rotation Control strap or RRC has become a staple of Vaughn leg pads for its ability to keep the goalie connected to the pad without hindering mobility. 

The Velocity V9 Pro Carbon Pads feature Vaughn’s new Quickslide material on the inner pad edge to provide increased sliding speed when in butterfly. As more goalies rely on the speed to move across the crease while down, many manufacturers are updating materials on this inner edge, and Vaughn’s Quickslide material passes the test with ease.
