The Vaughn 5500 trapper is one of goaltending's most well-known and coveted gloves. Through careful collaboration between our goalie experts and Vaughn's, we at Total Goalie are able to bring you the 5500 TG Spec catcher. Designed to bring many of the great features of the 5500 to your game with a few modifications to cater to different tastes, the 5500 TG Spec is a great glove for any goalie.

Starting with the main catching surface, the palm has been reinforced with thick padding. The padding is softer, which not only protects your hand, but helps to deaden impacts and give you more control over the puck. The glove face is also contoured to direct pucks into the pocket, furthering the control this glove gives you. The outer edge of the fingers is reinforced as well, preventing the tops of the finger area from curling over, ensuring the surface area presented to shooters is as large on shot 1,000 as it is on shot 1. The pocket on this trapper sees another modification from the traditional 5500, as the TG Spec features a double-T web and skatelace webbing, giving supreme impact absorption to this glove. The top of the webbing has also been significanlty strengthened with thick plastic inserts, stiffening a softer spot on the glove and aiding in the prevention of skipovers.

The cuff design is a classic two-piece, offering more flexibility and mobility when shooting and stickhandling. The cuff is flared along its exterior edge to help prevent skip-overs.

Moving to the back of the mitt, the cuff is extremely open, working with the two-piece design to continue the promotion of wrist mobility. Soft padding rests over the back of the hand, and HD foams reside over the fingers to provide protection from pucks and slashes. A deflector rail sits over the tips of the fingers to prevent those nasty stingers that hit the fingertips.

The inside of the glove is designed to feel natural and comfortable. Adjustable straps are placed over the wrist and over the backhand to provide a customizable fit, and the wrist strap extends outside of the interior to allow for quick adjustments on-the-fly.

The TG Spec comes with a classy sock stripe graphic, adding a timeless look to your gear setup.

Keys to a Proper Fit:

  • The goalie's fingers should extend out to the end of the finger stalls of the inside palm to ensure a proper fit. However, any more than 1/2" from the tip of the goaltender's finger to the end of the finger stall and the goaltender will not have the leverage needed to properly close and control the glove.

  • The heel of your hand should line up with the heel and cuff of the catcher. If not, the proper balance between the cuff and catching portion of the glove may be disturbed, making the glove too cumbersome while sacrificing protection.
